My husband and I did not grow up here. We moved to this area for a peaceful nature-centric retirement. 🙄
Like you, I need social media to keep in contact with friends and former colleagues.
Please know how much your words of thoughtful and forthright intellect and compassion mean to us considering we often feel like we’re stranded in a very hostile land. 😢
Here here! As I read through your thoughtful, action-oriented thoughts, I recalled an IG post from a few months ago that gave me pause. The poster called on other like-minded justice seekers to be mindful of moments when we find ourselves choosing between being a thermostat or a thermometer. While I share your inclination for pulling back from the socials, I’ve always appreciated your audacious and often sensitive take on what you’re experiencing in the day to day. It’s true: The agnostic algorithm wins either way, but please know that your participation in this space has real impact. Your micro-compassions overwhelm thoughtless micro-aggressions. Your posts remind me to be a thermostat 😊
Firstly, Substack has the WORST system for commenting or liking. I had to go through endless steps just to write this and I am a paid subscriber. Talk to them, Susie! Secondly, SPOT ON!!!!!
I used to comment on the outrageous. But I have way too many family members and friends from where I grew up that responded in such a hateful, violent way that it just hurt too much. I now find that I can stay silent and observe their comments. Seek to understand what's important to them. Then repost pieces that speaks to what's important to them. Maybe they will read it and see a light? I read everything, but it's just too exhausting to fight with my family online. I save my comments for my close group of friends. Thank you for being out there on this 2nd go around. I was there for the first.
I'm behind in reading your blogs so just seeing this. I have nothing to say but Wow! Thanks, Susie - for encouraging us to speak up.

There are lots of us. We're just quieter. That has to change!

"Like-minded justice seekers" -- thanks for these images and words of wisdom, my friend.

Ooh no! How frustrating! Is that why I don’t get more comments, I wonder?
I will not buy a cowrie shell necklace!
I see your rage. It's valid. You're experience is real. You're not alone.
